A Rant about What Resellers Shouldn’t Do in 2024




As we enter 2024, it’s time for some tough love in the reselling community. While reselling can be a lucrative business, there are certain practices that need to be left behind in 2023. From dishonesty to lack of integrity, here are the things I NEED resellers to stop doing in 2024:

1. Selling fake or counterfeit goods: This should go without saying, but unfortunately, there are still resellers out there peddling knockoff products as the real deal. Not only is this illegal, but it’s also unethical. As resellers, we should be proud to offer genuine, high-quality products to our customers.

2. Overcharging for items: It’s understandable that resellers need to make a profit, but there’s a fine line between fair pricing and price gouging. Customers are savvy and can see when they’re being taken advantage of. It’s time to be transparent about pricing and offer fair deals to our customers.

3. Misrepresenting the condition of items: Honesty is key in the reselling business. There’s nothing more frustrating for a customer than receiving an item that doesn’t match its description. Whether it’s a small flaw or a major defect, be upfront about the condition of the items you’re selling.

4. Ignoring customer service: Customer service is crucial in any business, and reselling is no exception. It’s time to prioritize customer satisfaction and address any issues or concerns promptly. Going the extra mile for your customers can make all the difference and keep them coming back for more.

5. Engaging in shady business practices: Whether it’s stealing photos from other sellers, leaving fake reviews, or sabotaging the competition, these underhanded tactics have no place in the reselling community. Let’s strive for a fair and ethical marketplace where everyone can thrive.

7. Forgetting to invest in quality packaging and shipping: Presentation matters, and that includes how your products are packaged and shipped. Invest in quality packaging materials and ensure that items are shipped in a timely manner to provide the best customer experience.

    Hi Heather, I have noticed a lot of times when I scan the upc with the Amazon app it doesn’t bring up anything or brings up the wrong items. However it works better with the product’s image. Any thoughts why that would be?

    Enjoyed the rant as it was needed to be heard. I’m adding number 11 to your list. Sellers need to stop selling items for dirt money because it brings down the value for other sellers. If other sellers are listing at $25 sell your listing at the same or close to price. I see the same item I sell for $25 being sold by other sellers for $10-$15. I don’t understand why sellers are not researching the solds and listed to find their sweet spot regarding price. Great video, thanks.

    YouTube resellers need to stop portraying reselling as a $50/hr dream job. There are far too many wannabes at Goodwill chasing carts and looking up junk on their phone.

    Even when you show "sold" comps I think they still need to be market price sold, not the one random guy that sold the item well above what you can actually get for it.

    I assume there are several resellers who do content creation and actually make more money with their youtube videos than their reselling, hence why they don't actually focus on having a good store.

    Thanks for this vid. I think some of the things I needed to hear. I keep stupidly comparing gross numbers to other resellers and I KNOW gross numbers aren't real profit. Ugh.
