A Simple Guide to Embracing the Digital Nomad Lifestyle by 2023

How to Become a Digital Nomad in 2023 – The Easy Way

In recent years, the concept of being a “digital nomad” has gained immense popularity. With advancements in technology and increasing opportunities for remote work, more and more individuals are choosing to embrace a location-independent lifestyle. If you aspire to become a digital nomad in 2023, here are some easy steps to help you fulfill your dream.

1. Assess your skills and capabilities
Before embarking on your digital nomad journey, take the time to evaluate your skills and capabilities. Identify your areas of expertise and determine if they can be leveraged for remote work. Some common digital nomad-friendly professions include web design, writing, coding, graphic design, marketing, and translation. If you lack the necessary skills, consider investing your time in acquiring them through online courses or self-study.

2. Establish a reliable online presence
Creating a strong online presence is crucial when you want to attract potential clients or secure remote job opportunities. Build a professional website showcasing your portfolio, skills, and experiences. Leverage social media platforms like LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram to connect with like-minded individuals, network, and showcase your work. The more visible and credible you are online, the easier it becomes to establish a successful digital nomad career.

3. Find remote work opportunities
Once you have identified your skills and built an online presence, it’s time to find remote work opportunities. Numerous websites cater specifically to remote work, such as Upwork, Freelancer, and Toptal. Browse job boards, freelance platforms, and social media groups relevant to your area of expertise. Alternatively, reach out to companies directly and inquire about remote work possibilities or consider starting your own freelance business. It’s important to stay proactive and persistent in your job search.

4. Develop a financial plan
Transitioning into a digital nomad lifestyle requires financial planning. Determine your desired monthly income and set realistic goals. Take into account your expenses, such as accommodation, transportation, insurance, and everyday living costs. It may be beneficial to save an emergency fund before taking the leap. Research the cost of living in potential destinations and compare it to your income to ensure a comfortable lifestyle. Budgeting and financial discipline will be key to sustaining your digital nomad lifestyle in the long run.

5. Choose your destination wisely
One of the biggest perks of being a digital nomad is the ability to work from anywhere in the world. Take advantage of this and choose your destinations wisely. Consider factors such as cost of living, quality of life, safety, internet connectivity, and local amenities relevant to your lifestyle. Research popular digital nomad hubs like Bali, Chiang Mai, Lisbon, or Medellin, where you will find a supportive and vibrant community of like-minded individuals.

6. Stay organized and productive
Maintaining organization and productivity is crucial to succeed as a digital nomad. Establish a routine that works for you, allocate specific work hours, and create a conducive workspace wherever you go. Utilize productivity tools, such as project management apps or time-tracking software, to stay focused and meet deadlines. Additionally, embrace a healthy work-life balance to prevent burnout and ensure that you make the most of your unique lifestyle.

7. Embrace a flexible mindset
Lastly, being a digital nomad requires adapting to constant change. Embrace a flexible mindset and be open to new experiences, cultures, and challenges. Embrace the freedom and independence that comes with being a digital nomad, but also be prepared for occasional uncertainties and setbacks. Keep yourself motivated, maintain a positive outlook, and remember why you chose this lifestyle in the first place.

I do not know what a DN is and Dropshipper (did I get that right?) I never heard before. You have sent me here from another vid and you explain well (I guess). But I would not even know, if I have ever met a DN or Dropshipper – I do not know what that shall be. To me it feels like a bubble as I here DN every day and that would be a sign to short it.
A non digital nomad – is that an analog one then? To waiter in summer in Spain and in winter in Austria makes one a nomad. But these days service jobs are out and digitals are in. What is that?

I feel like a TON of people would pay to see it… but it feels like, a short career… running into a hall of knives and stray bullets… nah. too dark-webby… however… i do really want to go to Somalia for no reason; idk why.

Hi Brett, I just discovered your channel when I found your video "Living in Thailand is not What You Think it's Like…" That was of particular interest to me & I'll leave a comment/question there for that video. I have a question about this video; With my current interest in Thailand, I've heard that the Thai Government is clamping down on Digital Nomads living in Thailand (I can't give any specifics off the top of my head, it's more of a comment I've seen in passing). Do you know anything about that? I'm not a Digital Nomad, nor doing any work in the digital field currently. My interest is coming more from an interest of thinking seriously about life, long term in Thailand and possible income sources in the near future, which I'll not expand on in public comments. Thanks for your videos, which, I've found very interesting, honest and realistic so far and look forward to watching more of.

So important to listen to feedback, rather than get defensive if it's not what you expected. Look at it as a great opportunity – free focus group feedback. Find out what people want and give it to them. Brilliant. You're a good mentor.

i would love to go to other countries and do tourist photography or something and make enough to get me along while traveling. I still want to see the world before settling down. When i first went traveling i was terrified of getting on the plane. Small baby steps are life changing. Fear is in our minds but money is still a thing sadly.

Again spot on, Brett! However, the term "Digital Nomad" needs a revamp in perception. Nowadays, there are so many ways of being online or being digital. Being a nomad is, in many ways, no longer necessarily related to working online or digital, for that matter.

Hi Brett, The second video of yours I am watching! Was browsing Youtube to find info about living in Thailand, and there we go, listening about starting a business, haha. What you mentioned here not only does apply to online businesses but also, I feel these are the key elements to starting any kind of business for a self-employed person, freelancer, etc. I really like your genuine tone! Cheers

If you want to stay in Thailand then have a skill set before being here. Otherwise unless you have money for a good year while you learn something then better go home and learn. Half the time you will try something and then change your mind anyway. And if you leap too soon with the new found skill set you will be crap compared to the competition and will never get repeat customers or make a name for yourself. Finding something to do just for the sake of being in Thailand won't work. You will never do as good of work as someone who is passionate about what they do.
