In recent years, Portugal has become a popular destination for digital nomads looking to live and work in a beautiful and affordable European country. To make it even easier for remote workers to relocate to Portugal, the government has recently announced the launch of a new Digital Nomad Visa set to be available in 2023.
This new visa is designed to attract professionals who can work remotely from Portugal, whether they work for a company based in another country or are self-employed. If you are considering applying for this visa, here is everything you need to know.
Who is eligible for the Digital Nomad Visa?
To be eligible for the Digital Nomad Visa, applicants must have a source of income that is external to Portugal, meaning that they cannot be employed by a Portuguese company. They must also have health insurance that covers them while in Portugal and have a valid passport.
Applicants must also demonstrate that they have the financial means to support themselves while living in Portugal. The exact requirements for income and savings have not been finalized yet, but it is expected that applicants will need to show they have enough money to support themselves for a certain period of time.
What are the benefits of the Digital Nomad Visa?
One of the main benefits of the Digital Nomad Visa is that it allows professionals to live and work in Portugal legally. This means that they can access Portugal’s healthcare system, open a bank account, and sign rental agreements without any issues.
Additionally, Portugal is known for its high quality of life, beautiful landscapes, and vibrant culture. Digital nomads who relocate to Portugal can enjoy all that this country has to offer while still being able to work remotely for their clients or companies.
How to apply for the Digital Nomad Visa?
The application process for the Digital Nomad Visa is expected to be relatively straightforward. Applicants will need to complete an online application form, provide proof of income, health insurance, and a valid passport. They may also need to provide a criminal record check from their home country.
Once the application is submitted, it is expected that the visa will be processed within a few weeks. The exact details of the application process and requirements will be announced closer to the launch date in 2023.
In conclusion, Portugal’s new Digital Nomad Visa is a great opportunity for remote workers looking to live and work in a stunning European country. With its beautiful landscapes, welcoming locals, and high quality of life, Portugal is a great destination for digital nomads. If you are interested in relocating to Portugal, keep an eye out for more information on the Digital Nomad Visa application process in 2023.

Before getting a visa, I can show my minimum income of 3040 euros for 6 months. but after getting the visa, it may stay below 3040 euro for some months, for example, I may not be able to work fully during holidays and the months I am sick. Is there any problem after getting this visa when i want to extend the visa, can the SEF check my income after getting the visa and prevent me from renewing the visa because i have earned less for some months?

Cristina! You’re the bomb! So clear and concise!
I'm amazed that people don't realise that there is a huge industry built up, based on selling Portugal to people with a house to sell, etc. And nobody seems to ask why so many people are starting YouTube channels to sell Portugal… it's because you can't actually earn decent money in Portugal, the tax is much higher than other countries, and about the only thing you can do, is try to fleece the other idiots who have more money than sense by trying to convince them to move here. Every single one of these "move to Portugal" types are trying to scam money from you.
