Amazon FBA How-To Series – Part 1 (How to Label Products)
If you’re looking to start selling products on Amazon using the Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) program, one of the first steps you’ll need to take is labeling your products properly. Proper labeling is crucial for ensuring that your products are stored, picked, and shipped accurately by Amazon’s fulfillment centers.
In this first part of our Amazon FBA How-To series, we’ll cover how to label your products for shipment to Amazon’s warehouses.
1. Choose the Right Labeling Option
When it comes to labeling your products for FBA, you have two options: stickerless commingled inventory or stickered inventory. Stickerless commingled inventory means that your products will be combined with other sellers’ products of the same type, and Amazon will use barcode scanning to identify your items. Stickered inventory, on the other hand, requires each of your products to have a unique barcode sticker that Amazon can scan.
2. Obtain Barcodes
Before you can label your products, you’ll need to obtain the proper barcodes. If your products already have UPC or EAN barcodes, you can use those. If not, you’ll need to purchase GS1 barcodes, which are globally recognized and accepted by Amazon.
3. Print and Apply Barcodes
Once you have your barcodes, you’ll need to print them out and apply them to your products. You can use a thermal label printer or a regular inkjet printer to print your barcodes. Make sure the barcodes are clear and easy to scan.
4. Follow Amazon’s Labeling Guidelines
Amazon has specific guidelines for labeling products for FBA, so make sure to follow them closely. Your barcodes should be placed in the designated location on your products, and they should be easily scannable. Amazon also requires that your barcodes be covered with a transparent label to protect them from damage.
5. Ship Your Products to Amazon
Once you’ve labeled your products, you can package them and ship them to Amazon’s warehouses. Make sure to generate shipping labels through Amazon Seller Central and follow their instructions for shipping your products.
