Living in Bangkok, Thailand as a Foreigner: An Honest Review 2023
When it comes to living abroad, Bangkok, Thailand is a destination that continually attracts foreigners from all around the world. The city’s vibrant culture, bustling streets, delicious food, and affordable living costs make it an ideal place to call home. However, living in Bangkok also comes with its fair share of challenges and considerations. In this article, we will provide an honest review of what it’s like to live in Bangkok as a foreigner in 2023.
One of the most notable aspects of living in Bangkok is the city’s undeniable energy. From the moment you step foot on its bustling streets, you are bombarded with a sensory overload of sights, sounds, and smells. The constant hustle and bustle can be both invigorating and exhausting, all at once. If you’re someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, Bangkok will be a perfect fit for you. On the other hand, if you prefer a slower, more relaxed lifestyle, you may find the city to be overwhelming.
One of the highlights of living in Bangkok is undoubtedly the food. Thai cuisine is renowned worldwide for its exquisite flavors and variety. From street food stalls serving up aromatic and spicy dishes to high-end restaurants offering a fine dining experience, Bangkok has something to satisfy every palate. Moreover, the affordable cost of food is a major plus, allowing you to enjoy delectable meals without breaking the bank. However, it’s worth mentioning that spicy food is a staple in Thai cuisine, so if you’re not a fan of heat, you may need to adapt your taste buds accordingly.
In terms of accommodation, Bangkok offers a plethora of options. From modern condominiums in prime city locations to more affordable apartments on the outskirts, you’ll find a range of housing choices to fit your budget. However, with the influx of foreigners and tourists, rental prices have been steadily rising in recent years. It’s recommended to do thorough research and seek advice from locals or expatriate communities before settling on accommodation to ensure you’re getting a good deal.
Another aspect to consider when living in Bangkok is the transportation system. The city has an extensive network of buses, trains, and sky trains that provide convenient access to all corners of the city. Additionally, ride-hailing apps like Grab offer affordable and reliable transportation options. However, traffic congestion can be a major issue during peak hours, so it’s wise to plan your journeys accordingly.
While Bangkok offers countless opportunities for entertainment, it’s important to acknowledge the city’s drawbacks. The high humidity and pollution levels can be challenging for some individuals, particularly those with respiratory issues. Additionally, the language barrier can pose difficulties in daily life, as English proficiency varies among locals. Efforts to learn basic Thai phrases can go a long way in bridging this gap.
Safety is always a concern when living abroad, and Bangkok is no exception. While the city generally has a low crime rate, like any major city, petty theft and scams do occur. Being mindful of your surroundings, avoiding isolated areas at night, and taking necessary precautions can help prevent these incidents.
In conclusion, living in Bangkok as a foreigner in 2023 offers a vibrant and exciting experience. The city’s rich culture, delicious cuisine, and affordable living costs are major attractions. However, it’s essential to consider factors such as the fast-paced lifestyle, language barrier, and climate before making the move. With proper research and an open mind, Bangkok can be an incredibly rewarding place to call home.

During my 7 days visit, I am finding almost everything as expensive as Australia where I am from. The best deal is the public transport that only costs me 80 Bhat all the way from airport to my hotel in just 40 minutes via the airport rail and BTS sky train. Maybe it's a tourist area where I'm staying at. Can't believe they charge 7,000 bhat for an Elephant tour which is the local half month of wage. I wonder where the locals go to see the elephants.
Dating pls. So many talk about all women there lf money.
I have watched a few of your videos and I would said that some of the points you mentioned are pretty inspiring and really hope to meet you in person and learn a few pointers from you.
Suggestion, just get Thai gf then everything here will be much easier.
I am gonna move myself to Thailand, Spain is similar to the West already so yeah, i will prefer to have a better life in general, Make a plan, EXECUTE and WIN.
Its way too busy for me man… I'd rather play my guitar on a wrap around porch in the country looking at the stars at night
Great video!
Now is probably a good time to make a video about dating, since high season is coming. I'm sure a few of us are going on a few dates here and there and want to know what to watch out for.
Thai women go for Chinese men for their traditional family values and the reputation of Chinese men's respect for women. The traditional family values are that the men works to earn money while the women cares for the home and children. Thai women are typically less educated as compare to those in East Asia (or the West), therefore also less ambitious. This is good if you wish to start a family with a wife who is happy to dedicate her time to raising children.
"Literally everything is cheaper" is not true at all haha. Alcohol and vehicles are both MUCH more expensive. You will also pay more for brand name shoes, electronics, etc. than in the US.
Thank you! This was very helpful!
Very good review for those wanting to come to Thailand! Having been around here for 8/9 years. It's changed a hell of a lot and I'm interested to see where it goes next.
Accommodation is something I really like, there are lots of condos being built, maybe too many, but that helps with the cost of living and rent! For me the best aspect I like are the infrastructure, cost of living, quality of life, options for food and hashes (running clubs) because we don't really have them back in the UK and if they do, they are mainly around cities rather than jungles and mountains!
My wife is Thai and she wants us to move back to Thailand from the US because of all the reason you mentioned above.
Also can confirm, Thai women are more traditional.
I enjoyed this video up until he was like " western woman are masculinized". That was off putting because the act of cleaning isn't "feminine", I'm sure you know both genders are capable of doing it. It's just that females have been assigned the role due to socialization. The way he just glides over this statement being misogynistic astounded me. Are you looking for a meaningful relationship with a partner or a mother? Yes, these woman might want to clean but that doesn't mean they haven't been affected by the patriarchal values or socialization or should be considered more desirable just because of this.
you gaineed a subscriber bro. youre chill. iim the dgtal nmad type. willl be there some day
One of the best concise reviews I’ve seen so far. Thx.
