Beginner’s Guide to Selling on Amazon FBA: Step by Step Tutorial from Jungle Scout (2021)

Selling products on Amazon can be a lucrative venture, especially if you use its Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA) service. FBA allows you to store your products in Amazon’s fulfillment centers, and Amazon takes care of the packing, shipping, and customer service for your products. This can save you time and hassle, and also allows you to reach a wider customer base. If you’re new to selling on Amazon FBA, here’s a step-by-step tutorial to get you started.

Step 1: Set up an Amazon seller account
The first thing you need to do is create an Amazon seller account. You can choose between an individual or professional account, with the latter offering more features and benefits. Once your account is set up, you will have access to the Amazon Seller Central, where you can manage your inventory, orders, and sales.

Step 2: Find a profitable product to sell
Before you start selling on Amazon, it’s crucial to find a product that has high demand and low competition. You can use tools like Jungle Scout to research and find profitable product opportunities. Look for products with a good sales rank, high demand, and low competition to increase your chances of success.

Step 3: Source your products
Once you’ve identified a profitable product, you need to source it. You can either manufacture your own products, or source them from suppliers or wholesalers. Make sure to negotiate favorable terms and prices to maximize your profit margins.

Step 4: Create a listing for your product
With your products sourced, it’s time to create a listing on Amazon. Write a compelling product description, include high-quality images, and set a competitive price to attract potential buyers. Additionally, you can use Amazon’s advertising services to promote your listing and increase its visibility.

Step 5: Prepare and ship your products to Amazon
Before you can start selling, you need to prepare and ship your products to Amazon’s fulfillment centers. This involves labeling your products, creating a shipment plan, and sending your products to the designated fulfillment center. Amazon will take care of the rest, including storing your products, picking, packing, and shipping them to customers.

Step 6: Start selling and managing your inventory
Once your products are live on Amazon, it’s time to start selling. Monitor your sales, manage your inventory, and fulfill customer orders to ensure a smooth and efficient selling process. You can also use Amazon’s tools and reports to track your sales performance and optimize your selling strategy.

Step 7: Provide excellent customer service
Customer satisfaction is crucial for your success on Amazon. Provide excellent customer service, respond to customer inquiries promptly, and resolve any issues or complaints to ensure a positive buying experience for your customers.

In conclusion, selling on Amazon FBA can be a rewarding business opportunity, especially if you follow these steps to get started. Research profitable products, source your inventory, create compelling listings, and provide excellent customer service to increase your chances of success. With the right approach and dedication, you can build a successful Amazon FBA business and achieve your financial goals.

    Super informative video!

I wanted to inquire more about the role of the freight forwarder and having your shipment ready for amazon. Is it correct that 1. Your manufacturer should print your FNSKU code on the packages 2. I create and print the shipping labels in amazon seller central and send them to my freight forwarder (would the "ship from" be the address of the manufacturer or the freight forwarder on these labels?) 3. My freight forwarder picks my products up from the manufacturer and prepares them for Amazon. What extra steps are they taking to prepare my products for Amazon?

Another question: If you have one product listed with different variations do you need a UPC code for every variation?

    Thanks!

I found a great product to sell, thanks to Jungle Scout easy to use software. I got Error 8572 when trying to put a UCP code. Even after the 72 hours suggested delay. I would like to sell a product without registered brand but seems I have no choice but to put a brand when making a UPC code. Do you have to have a brand when getting a UPC code ? If no, how do you set it up ? If yes, can you have a brand whitout it beeing registered ? I am doing something wrong somehow somewhere but I have no clue. Thanks for helping.

Has Amazon increased it's fees recently? And if so, how should new fba sellers cope with this situation?

I am curious why we would sort by listing # instead of monthly revenue? Wouldn't we want to look at the entire market on Amazon, then see who is getting a slice and how big their slice is? I understand ranking by listing order is relevant for search result "real estate", but isn't representative of where the dollars are actually going. I'd appreciate some more insight here if I'm thinking about this wrong! Skip to 6:52 to see what I'm referring to.

I'm getting confused because some things about the listing seem contradicting. The whole video followed the steps of selling a product that's already listed on amazon but then says you need a UPC barcode but I thought you only need to purchase a UPC if you selling a product not already listed? Also for the photo, how would I be taking my own photos if the supplier making the product is halfway across the country? I was assuming you'd just use images for google but now I'm getting confused. Would love for some clarification but the video has been great so far!

Utter nonsense. Yes, there is obviously some good generic advice in the video, but parts of it do not make sense at all (even to Jungle Scout himself). To consider demand and competition separately just like, and to say that if you can sell 10-15 items per day the demand is good, and to say that if the product sells well but there are low number of reviews it means the competition is low, without considering a huge number of other factors, that is absolute rubbish. This will mislead so many people and will lead to mistakes on their side and probably losing money. People, don't be fools, don't watch all these gurus. Go smarter about this thing. By the way, i am not saying you cannot be successful on amazon. Huge dislike to this video.

Hello Lenny, thank you so much for this video. I have been wanting to start selling on Amazon for a few years now. I watched this video and took notes a couple of years ago but got discouraged because I have no idea how to become a seller from The Bahamas and without a U.S bank account. Althought the Bahamas is said to now be on the list of countries, I am still having a problem understanding how to go about doing this and calling Amazon has not been helpful. Could you please assist?

It's been one month i have signed up for the seller central account but it does not verify. I scheduled 2 meetings with amazon but still, not verified. The problem is in my address. When i give my residential address and zip code, the amazon website does not recognize the zip code of my address. therefore, i gave my LLC address for receiving the postcard. When I submit my bank statement, it has my own residential address rather than my LLC address. Therefore, it creates problems.
it took a lot of time to verify and is still pending.

also, where I can learn the difference between private label and wholesale. Do I need to create specific amazon seller accounts for each of them?

Hi, fantastic video, thanks. I have a question regarding Images. You mention in the video that you can either hire a professional or take photos yourself and either option must adhere to Amazon guidelines. What I can’t work out is: At what point do these images get taken? If air/sea shipped from manufacturer to Amazon, who takes the images? And how is it an option to take the images yourself when the product doesn’t get sent to you? Similarly, at what point can you take lifestyle images if the product gets shipped and ready to be listed? I can’t work that part out.

This is by far the best guide I have come across as I am getting ready to purchase my first product from a manufacturer and launch my Amazon store. A couple of questions that I still have after watching your video:
    – Obviously, knowing the landed cost of my product is important to determine, in the product research phase, if a product idea is worth pursuing. How do I know the landed cost of my first product when I won’t actually get shipping quotes/duty charges until I choose and hire a freight forwarder? This information seems to come along very far into the process, whereas I feel like I need a good idea of these costs before placing my first order with a manufacturer.
    – I want to have my manufacturer print my FNSKU barcode on my packaging. However, the listing needs to be created before I can get this barcode to send to my manufacturer. Do I just create a skeleton of a listing to get this in the early stages (to send to manufacturer) and then refine my listing while I am waiting for my product to arrive? If so, what is required within the listing (title, photos, etc.) in order to create this minimal listing to get the barcode?
    – For product images, can’t I just use the images from my product’s manufacturer? For example, if buying on Alibaba, can I use these same images from that listing? Can I ask my supplier for their raw, highest-quality image files so they will be zoomable on Amazon?

    Thank you!
