Canadian Experience Class – Gaining Work Experience in Remote, Self-Employed, and Freelancer roles for Permanent Residency in Canada

In recent years, the landscape of work has been rapidly changing, with more and more individuals opting for remote work opportunities, self-employment, and freelancing. This shift has been accelerated by advancements in technology, which have made it easier for people to work from anywhere in the world.

For individuals looking to immigrate to Canada through the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) program, having experience in remote work, self-employment, or freelancing can be a valuable asset. These types of work experiences demonstrate a high degree of flexibility, adaptability, and self-motivation, which are all qualities that are highly sought after by Canadian employers.

Remote work has become increasingly popular in recent years, with many companies now offering flexible work arrangements that allow employees to work from home or other locations outside of the traditional office setting. This type of work experience can demonstrate to Canadian immigration authorities that an individual is able to effectively manage their time, communicate and collaborate with others remotely, and meet deadlines without direct supervision.

Self-employment is another type of work experience that can be advantageous for individuals applying for the CEC program. Self-employed individuals are usually responsible for managing all aspects of their business, from marketing and sales to financial management and customer service. This type of experience can showcase an individual’s entrepreneurial skills, creativity, and ability to work independently.

Freelancing is another option for individuals looking to gain valuable work experience for the CEC program. Freelancers typically work on a project-by-project basis for various clients, which allows them to develop a diverse set of skills and experience in different industries and sectors. Freelancing can also demonstrate an individual’s ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet tight deadlines, and adapt to changing client needs.

These types of experiences demonstrate a high degree of flexibility, adaptability, and self-motivation, which are all qualities that are highly valued by Canadian employers. By highlighting this type of work experience in their application, individuals can improve their chances of securing permanent residency in Canada through the CEC program.

    Hi
I have incorporated my company and filing HST returns as well. I do have contracts to demonstrate my skills and bank statements to show revenue. Why would this be not considered towards my express entry points and CEC category?

I work remotely full-time for a US based company from my home country.

When filling out the express entry profile, I came across a section called as 'Work History' wherein they ask the company name followed by fields: Country, State and City.

Since I am working for the US based company, should the Country, State and City fields in the 'Work History' section have the information of the US company or should it be the information about where I work or perform my job i.e. my home country?

    Thanks !!

This is very informative. Scenario: You are working remotely for someone outside Canada and you also have full-time work in Canada. You apply for permanent residency. How will that affect your application? I read somewhere that it will make your application difficult. Should you just give up your remote work and keep the one in Canada? Thanks in advance for answering.
