Deciding Between a Company Name and a Brand Name for Your Amazon FBA Business

When starting an Amazon FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) business, one of the first decisions you’ll need to make is choosing a name for your company and a separate name for your brand. While some entrepreneurs may opt to use the same name for both, there are distinct advantages to having separate identities for your company and brand.

Choosing a company name involves selecting the legal entity under which your business will operate. This name will be used for official documents, business transactions, and tax purposes. It should be unique and not already in use by another business to avoid legal issues down the road. Your company name could be something generic like “ABC Enterprises” or more specific like “John Smith LLC.”

On the other hand, your brand name is the identity that customers will associate with your products. It should be catchy, memorable, and reflective of your brand’s values and offerings. Your brand name could be something creative like “Sunshine Soaps” or descriptive like “Organic Beauty Co.”

Having separate company and brand names allows for greater flexibility and scalability in your business. You can launch multiple product lines or expand into different markets under the same company name, while still maintaining unique and recognizable brand names for each product.

Additionally, having a strong brand name can help differentiate your products from competitors and build customer loyalty. A well-chosen brand name can convey the quality, values, and personality of your brand, making it more attractive to consumers.

When choosing a company and brand name for your Amazon FBA business, consider the following tips:

1. Do some research to make sure the names you’re considering are not already in use by other businesses.
2. Consider the future growth and expansion of your business when selecting a name.
3. Keep it simple, easy to spell, and easy to remember.
4. Make sure the name reflects your brand’s values, products, and target market.
5. Check if the domain name and social media handles are available for your chosen names.

Ultimately, the decision to have separate company and brand names for your Amazon FBA business is a personal one that depends on your business goals and strategies. However, taking the time to carefully choose both names can set your business up for success and help you stand out in the competitive e-commerce market.

Why didn't you provide the website name you're using to search the registrar and trademarks?
Is it behind a paywall? Or just assumed we will know what it is?
    Thanks

If it will appear on invoices you should use a registered company name like an LLC if I’m correct?

Hi Ben, great video. Does this mean, if you have not got a trade marked brand name you cannot sell products bought from alibaba? Would it have to be products from a wholesaler already with a brand name?

Hi Ben, can I ask a silly question, when coming up with a brand name I’m thinking generic as possible as I may branch into different categories and this brand name can then reflect onto many products in different categories and niches. So what are the best ways and ideas how to come up with such a generic brand name without it being a word of random letters put together?

Hi Ben. May I ask, when I create the company, do I choose only one SIC code (47910 Retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet, I think that applys for selling on Amazon) or shall I choose more SIC codes? Or that one it's enough, no matter what kind of product I will sell on Amazon in the future? Cheers!

Hi Ben. Regarding to what you said in the last part of the video: just create the company and bank account and start selling, leaving the brand for later. Well, that means I can't sell under private label and sell with the chinese brand as come from the supplier, right? I can still make sales and money, working on a good listing, but that means I don''t differentiate myself from the others who sell the same product. Otherwise, on the private label I should have my brand name. Cause if I tell the supplier to put my brand on the product, but I haven't registered yet as a trademark, I might get in trouble, right? Anyone could claim that name if they see its selling good and its not registered as trademark.

Once you register a company name Ben and begin with a business account through say a fintech bank account, are you able to begin your process off off finding a product and supplier? Also at what point do you feel like you may need an accountant, is there a threshold where it is best to get one?

Would you advise getting a professional email associated with your company name or just use a free one like gmail, hotmail etc?

I’m assuming a professional email would help with contacting suppliers too as it makes you look more serious.
