Living in Tenerife, Spain as a Digital Nomad (Canary Islands)
As the rise of remote work continues to gain momentum, more and more individuals are opting for the digital nomad lifestyle. One destination that has emerged as a haven for location-independent professionals is Tenerife, the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands. With its stunning landscapes, warm climate, and affordable living costs, Tenerife offers an enticing environment for those looking to balance work and leisure.
Located in the Atlantic Ocean, off the north-western coast of Africa, Tenerife is blessed with a beautiful subtropical climate all year round. With average temperatures ranging from 17°C (62°F) in winter to 25°C (77°F) in summer, you can comfortably work outdoors, savoring the island’s breathtaking beaches, lush mountains, and picturesque sunsets. The fantastic weather is undoubtedly one of the biggest draws for digital nomads seeking to escape the cold winter months.
One of the key advantages of living in Tenerife as a digital nomad is the low cost of living. Compared to major cities in Europe and the United States, the cost of accommodation, transportation, and everyday expenses is significantly lower. Whether you prefer to rent a modern apartment in the bustling capital of Santa Cruz de Tenerife or reside in a traditional Canary Islands village, you can find affordable housing options to suit your budget. Additionally, groceries, dining out, and entertainment are reasonably priced, allowing you to enjoy a good quality of life without breaking the bank.
When it comes to connectivity, Tenerife boasts excellent internet infrastructure. You’ll find high-speed internet access readily available in most accommodations, coworking spaces, cafes, and restaurants. This reliable connectivity allows digital nomads to seamlessly connect with clients and colleagues, attend virtual meetings, or engage in online collaborations. The island also offers a multitude of coworking spaces where you can network with like-minded professionals, fueling creativity and potential business opportunities.
Tenerife is not just all work and no play. It offers a remarkable array of outdoor activities and natural wonders to explore during your downtime. Hiking enthusiasts can venture into the picturesque Anaga Mountains, while beach lovers can soak up the sun or indulge in water sports along the island’s beautiful coastlines. If you crave a change of scenery, you can easily explore the neighboring islands of La Gomera, Gran Canaria, and Fuerteventura, as Tenerife serves as a gateway to the archipelago.
The island is also known for its vibrant culture, delicious cuisine, and lively fiestas. From traditional Canarian dishes such as papas arrugadas (wrinkled potatoes) and mojo sauces to seafood delicacies and tapas, Tenerife offers a diverse culinary experience. The island’s festivals, such as the Carnaval de Santa Cruz de Tenerife, are internationally renowned for their colorful parades, stunning costumes, and electrifying atmosphere.
In terms of safety, Tenerife ranks high on the list. The crime rate is relatively low, and the local authorities prioritize the well-being of both residents and visitors. The healthcare system is of high quality, with modern facilities and English-speaking medical professionals readily available.
Living in Tenerife as a digital nomad offers an ideal balance between work and leisure. Whether you’re in search of a refreshing environment to enhance your productivity, a vibrant cultural experience, or simply yearning for an island paradise to call home, Tenerife has it all. Embrace the digital nomad lifestyle, soak up the sun, and create memories in this enchanting corner of the world.

Hi Sergio! I'm curious – which did you like better overall? Tenerife or Gran Canaria?
Wow, Tenerife seems way busier than I expected!
Great video, Sergio! Exiting overview of the island and the coworking spaces. Right the video I was looking for. Also liked the story and editing. Thanks a lot
Bedankt

Hey Sergio, great video, if you’re still living there – I’m coming to Tenerife 21/11 – 25/11, working remotely for about 2 years now (tech sales, specifically Legaltech) for Spanish company at the moment, but looking forward enjoying life more since I can live as nomad. Would appreciate an advice, maybe let’s have a beer some time while I’m there?
Best of luck!
Dana
Hi Sergio, I absolutely love your videos on Digital Nomad life on Canary Island, so much so I'm in the process of selling my house to move there. But I have one question, out of these three places where would you settle, 1 Santa Cruz De Tenerife, 2, Tenerife South, 3 Las Palmas ? where has the best nature, weather, vibe? Muchas Gracias
Gran video hermano, me encantan tus videos! Dan mucha paz

Great video as always. I have a question: do you prefer Gran Canaria or Tenerife?
Hi Sergio, will be in Tenerife soon so i was really happy to see that you already uploaded a video for this!
Btw i think you forgot to put the google recommendation list in the description right?
Awesome video man!
please do not promote digital nomads, you are a serious problem for our economy. You help to raise the prices of housing and life on the islands with European salaries and you make life difficult for the natives. not help us, we are forced to emigrate and it complicates our lives when it comes to being able to become independent
My favourite so far ❤️ You did a wonderful job of showing all of Tenerife. It was my first official home as a nomad and you made me miss it so much. I must go backs. Great video Sergio!
Be very welcome, Sergio. Hope you enjoy my island as well as the other canaries.
Going to Tenerife in October and planning to stay there for several months, therefore a very cool and interesting video at the perfect time. Muchísimas gracias y que tengas mucho éxito!
So many experiences to choose from! Great video. Next stop: Madeira? The Azores? As for carnival, I suspect the folks in Barranquilla, Colombia would have something to say about whose ranks second to Rio. LOL
god I wish I could travel like this
Great video @sergio
WoW, super interesting video Sergio, great experience in Tenerife! But i guess that Your journey was a quite expensive budget for an average Digital Nomad for a longer stay.
Great work Sergio! Excellent material for anyone considering coming to Tenerife. And thanks for surfacing some of the new places, I didn't know about 🙂
You went there by ferry?
Tenerife is good for everything!!! that island has everything you want to look for. So I hope to live there in the future.Thank you for the video!!
Mr. Sala:
Are the Canary Islands economically affordable to retire?

Hi Sergio, I would like to know what is your job besides creating content, I mean are you developer, VA, customer support agent?
Your videos are always top quality. Thanks for continuing to make them!
Nice vid of Tenerife. Loads to see there. That view across the volcano summit was fantastic. Next time will have to go there. Like the way you covered so many parts of the island
Amazing video! Thanks for your work!!
Hey, Sergio! Great video, amazing images of El Teide hike! I was wondering how much time do you normally stay in a city or town? How nomad are you? Greetings from Cartagena, Colombia!! 🙂
Really nice the little towns and mountains, good for a rural holiday. Greetings from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria 🙂
Looks like a neat little spot. Great video!
