Experiencing Digital Nomadism in Tenerife, Spain (Canary Islands)

Living in Tenerife, Spain as a Digital Nomad (Canary Islands)

As the rise of remote work continues to gain momentum, more and more individuals are opting for the digital nomad lifestyle. One destination that has emerged as a haven for location-independent professionals is Tenerife, the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands. With its stunning landscapes, warm climate, and affordable living costs, Tenerife offers an enticing environment for those looking to balance work and leisure.

Located in the Atlantic Ocean, off the north-western coast of Africa, Tenerife is blessed with a beautiful subtropical climate all year round. With average temperatures ranging from 17°C (62°F) in winter to 25°C (77°F) in summer, you can comfortably work outdoors, savoring the island’s breathtaking beaches, lush mountains, and picturesque sunsets. The fantastic weather is undoubtedly one of the biggest draws for digital nomads seeking to escape the cold winter months.

One of the key advantages of living in Tenerife as a digital nomad is the low cost of living. Compared to major cities in Europe and the United States, the cost of accommodation, transportation, and everyday expenses is significantly lower. Whether you prefer to rent a modern apartment in the bustling capital of Santa Cruz de Tenerife or reside in a traditional Canary Islands village, you can find affordable housing options to suit your budget. Additionally, groceries, dining out, and entertainment are reasonably priced, allowing you to enjoy a good quality of life without breaking the bank.

When it comes to connectivity, Tenerife boasts excellent internet infrastructure. You’ll find high-speed internet access readily available in most accommodations, coworking spaces, cafes, and restaurants. This reliable connectivity allows digital nomads to seamlessly connect with clients and colleagues, attend virtual meetings, or engage in online collaborations. The island also offers a multitude of coworking spaces where you can network with like-minded professionals, fueling creativity and potential business opportunities.

Tenerife is not just all work and no play. It offers a remarkable array of outdoor activities and natural wonders to explore during your downtime. Hiking enthusiasts can venture into the picturesque Anaga Mountains, while beach lovers can soak up the sun or indulge in water sports along the island’s beautiful coastlines. If you crave a change of scenery, you can easily explore the neighboring islands of La Gomera, Gran Canaria, and Fuerteventura, as Tenerife serves as a gateway to the archipelago.

The island is also known for its vibrant culture, delicious cuisine, and lively fiestas. From traditional Canarian dishes such as papas arrugadas (wrinkled potatoes) and mojo sauces to seafood delicacies and tapas, Tenerife offers a diverse culinary experience. The island’s festivals, such as the Carnaval de Santa Cruz de Tenerife, are internationally renowned for their colorful parades, stunning costumes, and electrifying atmosphere.

In terms of safety, Tenerife ranks high on the list. The crime rate is relatively low, and the local authorities prioritize the well-being of both residents and visitors. The healthcare system is of high quality, with modern facilities and English-speaking medical professionals readily available.

Living in Tenerife as a digital nomad offers an ideal balance between work and leisure. Whether you’re in search of a refreshing environment to enhance your productivity, a vibrant cultural experience, or simply yearning for an island paradise to call home, Tenerife has it all. Embrace the digital nomad lifestyle, soak up the sun, and create memories in this enchanting corner of the world.

Hey Sergio, great video, if you’re still living there – I’m coming to Tenerife 21/11 – 25/11, working remotely for about 2 years now (tech sales, specifically Legaltech) for Spanish company at the moment, but looking forward enjoying life more since I can live as nomad. Would appreciate an advice, maybe let’s have a beer some time while I’m there?

    Best of luck!

please do not promote digital nomads, you are a serious problem for our economy. You help to raise the prices of housing and life on the islands with European salaries and you make life difficult for the natives. not help us, we are forced to emigrate and it complicates our lives when it comes to being able to become independent

So many experiences to choose from! Great video. Next stop: Madeira? The Azores? As for carnival, I suspect the folks in Barranquilla, Colombia would have something to say about whose ranks second to Rio. LOL
