Here’s How to Get Started as a Food Influencer: Advice from Food Brand Managers

Over the past few years, food influencer marketing has become increasingly popular among brands looking to reach a larger audience and increase their sales. If you’ve ever scrolled through Instagram and felt inspired by the food photos and videos you see, you may have considered becoming a food influencer yourself. But where do you start?

To find out, we spoke to food brand managers who work with influencers on a regular basis. Here are their tips and advice for aspiring food influencers:

1. Find your niche: One of the first steps to becoming a successful food influencer is to find your niche. Whether you’re into vegan recipes, baking, or international cuisine, it’s important to choose a specific area of food that you’re passionate about. This will help you stand out from the crowd and attract followers who share your interests.

2. Create high-quality content: In the world of social media, visuals are key. Make sure your photos and videos are clear, well-lit, and visually appealing. Invest in a good camera or smartphone and learn the basics of food photography. You don’t need to be a professional photographer, but having a good eye for composition and lighting can make a big difference in the quality of your content.

3. Engage with your audience: Building a strong and loyal following on social media is all about engagement. Respond to comments, messages, and DMs from your followers, and ask for their input and feedback on your content. The more you interact with your audience, the more likely they are to engage with your posts and share them with their own followers.

4. Collaborate with brands: Once you’ve established a solid following and created a portfolio of high-quality content, you can start reaching out to brands for collaboration opportunities. Look for brands that align with your values and interests, and pitch them ideas for how you can work together to promote their products or services.

5. Be consistent: Consistency is key when it comes to building a successful food influencer brand. Post regularly, engage with your audience consistently, and stay true to your niche and brand identity. Over time, your hard work and dedication will pay off, and you’ll start to see growth in your following and engagement rates.

Becoming a food influencer may seem daunting at first, but with dedication, passion, and hard work, it’s definitely achievable. By following the advice of food brand managers and staying true to your unique voice and style, you can build a successful career as a food influencer and inspire others to get creative in the kitchen. Good luck!

So I'm also a instagram food influencer. I'm well known in my area, 10k followers, I'm also the number 1 foodie in my city, not a massive city, but decent size in Georgia. I started in 2021 just having fun posting food and it sorta blew up. Restaurants know me and consider me a local resource. I tend to highlight delicious eats in my city, as I eat places I highlight different dishes and repost dishes, stories from other restaurant instagram accounts. I've worked with some big brand but they only offer gift cards.

I also am working on a website, but I'm struggling to figure out how to make money from the instagram? What to charge, what to charge for as I've always done stuff for free to grow the account, but now I need to start making funds from it. A lot of local restaurants struggle here, but at the same time, the credibility I've built is important to me, so I just don't want to become a account with nothing but sponsored posts. But need to figure out how to make money from the instagram and the upcoming website. Ideas? My reels always go viral and do incredible and I've been told by many brand managers I have a very engaged audience.
