Selling Mugs on eBay: What Mugs Sell on eBay | Flipping Coffee Mugs | Mug Life
Are you a coffee lover with a knack for finding unique and collectible mugs? Or perhaps you are exploring ways to make some extra income from your passion for mugs? Either way, selling mugs on eBay can be a lucrative venture. In this article, we will delve into the world of mug flipping, discuss what types of mugs sell well on eBay, and explore the mug life as a business opportunity.
Mug flipping has become a popular trend among collectors and sellers alike. It involves purchasing mugs at low prices and reselling them at a profit. eBay has emerged as a prime platform for mug flipping due to its vast user base and the ability to reach global buyers. The marketplace allows sellers to reach a larger audience and connect with those who appreciate unique and sought-after mugs.
So, what types of mugs sell well on eBay? The answer lies in understanding the preferences of buyers. While individual tastes can vary, vintage and collectible mugs tend to generate a significant interest. Mugs featuring famous brands, characters from pop culture, or those associated with significant events often attract a large pool of potential buyers. For example, mugs featuring iconic logos such as Coca-Cola or Disney characters are highly sought after.
Limited edition mugs can also fetch a hefty price on eBay. Many coffee shops release seasonal or special edition mugs, and if you are quick to scoop them up, you could benefit from their popularity among collectors. Additionally, mugs depicting specific themes such as sports teams, TV shows, or hobbies can have a devoted fan base willing to pay a premium for them.
When selling mugs on eBay, presentation is key. Take high-quality photos that showcase the mug’s unique features, including any patterns, designs, or logos. Provide detailed and accurate descriptions that highlight its condition, any wear or damage, and any notable features that may appeal to buyers. Additionally, consider offering a variety of shipping options to cater to national and international customers. Remember, the more detailed and appealing your listing is, the higher the chances of attracting potential buyers.
Now, let’s explore the mug life as a business opportunity. Selling mugs on eBay is not only a way to earn extra income but can also provide a fulfilling creative outlet. Scouring thrift stores, garage sales, or even your own collection for potential flip-worthy mugs can be an exciting treasure hunt. The thrill of discovering a hidden gem and successfully flipping it for a profit can be addictive for mug enthusiasts.
Moreover, the mug market offers diverse opportunities for niche specialization. Some sellers focus on specific themes, such as vintage mugs from the ’80s or mugs featuring animal designs. This specialization allows you to cater to a targeted audience and become a trusted source for specific mug collections.
If you decide to embark on the mug-flipping journey, it’s crucial to stay informed about trends and market demand. Keep an eye on current pop culture trends and hot collectible items to identify potential opportunities. Following relevant social media accounts, participating in collector groups, and building a network of fellow mug enthusiasts can help you stay ahead of the curve and maximize your profits.
In conclusion, selling mugs on eBay can be an enjoyable and profitable venture for coffee lovers and collectors alike. By understanding the preferences of buyers, presenting your listings attractively, and staying informed about market trends, you can carve out a successful niche in the world of mug flipping. So, grab your favorite coffee mug, start hunting for treasures, and uncover the potential of the mug life!

I was just reading up on Vincent Van Gogh and his family licenses his name and art work to be used on many unusual products.. from Cars to coffee mugs.. they probably charge these companies a fortune to use his art because they are constantly fighting each other over money and fighting people making counterfeit products with his art on it.. so if it's officially licensed then that's probably why they sell for so much…. nice to know about mugs.. i found 2 possibly vintage mugs handmade and painted in italy.. i found them in some boxes from a storage unit, and they were free and I've seen other handmade Italian mugs selling for over $100 ea.. I'm hoping they are worth somewhere in that range.. lol
I think the best things that sell on Ebay that I buy from thrifting is electronics and certain books. But thrifting is too much running around, im getting into print on demand mug selling
David's tea is like the starbuck of tea here in Canada. Super overpriced loose tea boutiques. 🙂

I'm very interested in this world of pottery and ceramics but at the same time I have to get over the fear of fragility of shipping LOL!
I've done well with Yesteryear mugs and milk glass Peanuts/Snoopy mugs. $25.00 – 35.00.
Ken Edwards pretty famous potter-Has some beautiful stuff!
Hi, Margaret. Thank you so much for this video. I've been a passive seller on eBay for a very long time. Just started in the last few months doing some mugs….although my "death" pile has grown…LOL. I had two, that I knew were Mexican pottery, but couldn't find comps. Well, after watching this…they are indeed Tonalo…AMEX signed. I picked them up for .49 each. Will be listing today!!! I just put them in a cabinet and forgot about them. YaY! Now, onto my Jewelry pile…..you are a wealth of info even for an old broad like me! (Switching up what I usually sell) Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Watching all your video's for the last year, learning a lot, thank you so much
MARA stoneware mugs are great sellers too! They are quite unique in their style.
The Death Wish mugs only make somewhere between 4000 or 5000 of each type, and I think that's why they are so expensive and collectible.
Enjoyed!
Hysteric Glamour on the Supreme mug is an expensive well sought after brand. I think it's a Japanese brand. Must have been a collaboration.
David’s Teas is a mall store that sells specialty teas. The lid can be used as your coaster too.
I discovered the David's Tea by accident this week! Bought one to resell and had so many people wanting it! I'm from Alberta (I'm the one who asked about the Tinkerbell earrings). I only sell on market place so far.
Yep, Ken Edwards is a known name. Some are better than others, need to look up before buying but if the price is low, probably worth picking up. He made plates, bowls figurines and more. There are few Mexican potters that are worth looking up and remembering their initials. That’s how they usually sign their pottery.
Wow with the Ken Edwards Mexico mugs! Also the Finnish ones. I would have passed them up too. Thanks for the info!
As a Canadian, the David’s tea mug prices are very surprising! There is a David’s Tea in nearly every mall here, and the mugs are a quintessential “$20 Secret Santa” gift in my experience . I wonder if they have a resale value because they tend to sell designs for only a limited amount of time and do not repeat?
The Money Hungry Picker recently sold a Death Wish Mug for $90!
This is why I love you so much! I picked up pottery at GWill today and had no idea who made it. I decided to watch your video and BAM you start explaining how Ken Edwards has different signatures! Turns out, it is his work! Thank you for all your videos, they truly are so helpful!!
Not exactly mug related, but I just went thrifting for the first time in about four months today and found a set of drinking glasses with a plaid pattern and a Georges Briard signature on the bottom for fifty cents each. I didn't know the name, but the glass and print looked high quality and I figured the signature had to mean something. Took a gamble on them and bingo — a set of four is worth about $120.
I also always like to tell the story about the time I bought a mug with Moomin on it for 35 cents and wound up selling it for $35. I had no idea how collectible they were when I bought it, even though I recognized the character and assumed I could easily turn a profit, but once I did my research I was shocked at the prices of some of the Moomin mugs! Mugs and glassware is definitely worth the gamble!
I once was an Argentina mug out yard selling for $1 but I didn't get it cause I was looking for a Christmas one at the time. SMH but I'm also not a reseller
Fabulous video!!!! Thanks so much!! I now look for coffee mugs thanks to you….
