LinkedIn co-founder foresees the decline of traditional 9-to-5 jobs | Global News | WION

LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman recently made a bold prediction about the future of work, stating that the days of the traditional 9-to-5 job may be numbered. In an interview with WION, Hoffman discussed the concept of “gravitas”, the ability to project confidence, authority, and leadership, as a key factor in the evolving nature of work.

Hoffman explained that as technology continues to advance and the global economy becomes increasingly interconnected, the traditional boundaries of the workday are becoming less relevant. With the rise of remote work and flexible schedules, employees are no longer tied to a strict 9-to-5 schedule and are able to work when and where they are most productive.

This shift in how work is structured has significant implications for both employers and employees. For employers, it means rethinking how they measure productivity and success, moving away from strict time-based metrics towards more outcome-based measures. This can lead to greater innovation, collaboration, and employee satisfaction.

For employees, the shift away from the 9-to-5 grind opens up new opportunities for work-life balance and personal fulfillment. Rather than being confined to a desk for eight hours a day, employees are able to customize their work hours to fit their individual needs and preferences.

Hoffman’s concept of gravitas ties into this new era of work, suggesting that individuals who possess confidence, leadership skills, and a strong personal brand will be best positioned to thrive in this changing landscape. As more companies embrace remote work and flexible schedules, employees who can command respect, inspire trust, and lead with integrity will be in high demand.

With the right skills, mindset, and approach, individuals can take control of their careers and find success in this new era of work. Embracing gravitas and cultivating a strong personal brand will be key to navigating the changing landscape of work and thriving in the years to come.

9 to 11 will be replaced by contractor with zero to none benefits and minimum wedge. The corporate has been trying this for a long time and this is the best time to do it.

I would say, it will be the end of on Roll employment, jobs would be on Contract only, even if it's for 3+ years.

They'll add performance clauses and obligations & milk people more, if Socialism peaked and crashed in the 70's, Capitalism is building towards crash in the 30's.

it's never 9-5 (maybe in developed countries), in Asia it's 9-7 normally, 9-9 also happens nowadays with phone calls and ppt's from home, additional unpaid labour.
