Living as an Expat or Remote Worker in Albania

Albania, a small country located in Southeastern Europe, is quickly becoming a popular destination for expats and digital nomads looking for a unique and affordable place to live. With its beautiful landscapes, rich history, and welcoming locals, Albania offers a different kind of experience for those looking to live abroad.

Living as an expat or digital nomad in Albania may seem daunting at first, but with the right mindset and preparation, it can be a truly rewarding experience. Here are some things to consider if you’re thinking about making the move to this Balkan gem.

One of the biggest draws for expats and digital nomads in Albania is the low cost of living. With affordable rent, food, and transportation, you can live comfortably on a modest budget. This, combined with the country’s stunning beaches, mountains, and vibrant cities, make Albania an attractive option for those looking to experience a different way of life.

In terms of accommodation, there are plenty of options available for expats and digital nomads in Albania. From modern apartments in the capital city of Tirana to traditional guesthouses in the countryside, you can find a place that suits your needs and budget. Many expats choose to live in coastal cities like Vlora or Saranda, where they can enjoy a beach lifestyle while still being close to urban amenities.

When it comes to working as a digital nomad in Albania, there are a few things to consider. While the country does have decent internet speeds and infrastructure, there may be some issues with reliability in more rural areas. It’s also a good idea to have a backup plan in case of power outages or other disruptions. However, many expats find that the laid-back lifestyle and warm climate make up for any minor inconveniences.

Another important factor to consider when living in Albania is the language barrier. While many Albanians speak English, especially in tourist areas, you may encounter some challenges if you don’t speak the local language. It’s a good idea to learn a few basic phrases in Albanian to help you navigate daily life and make connections with the locals.

Overall, living as an expat or digital nomad in Albania can be a truly unique and rewarding experience. With its affordable cost of living, stunning scenery, and friendly locals, this Balkan country offers a different way of life that may be just what you’re looking for. So, if you’re thinking about making the move to Albania, don’t hesitate to take the plunge and start your new adventure in this hidden gem of Europe.

Very nice to have found your video! I’ve been to Albania, Kosovo 7 times, in addition to Macedonia and Montenegro. I traveled there many years ago, and am planning on moving soon from the U.S. I highly recommend atleast visiting as I felt very safe, and was welcome as an American. The scenery is beautiful. I’m currently looking for an old Ottoman style stone villa on the coast.

Are you still in Vlore? My partner and I are planning on moving there in January 2023. We thought about Tirana as there is more to do there, but my partner is a diver and he would rather be by the sea. My only concern in Vlore is finding a foreigner community and for him to get a resident permit because he's Canadian, I'm American. I found your videos very helpful. I hope you release more.

I would love to join you in your endeavour. I have a recurring income from my home country, but would like to settle in Albania. Especially if it can help to simplify my residency application.
