My Experience Getting Carded at a Garage Sale

Have you ever been asked to show your identification at a garage sale? Well, that’s exactly what happened to me recently and I have to admit, it was definitely a first for me!

I was out on a leisurely Saturday morning stroll when I stumbled upon a garage sale in my neighborhood. Always on the lookout for a good deal, I decided to peruse the items on display. As I was browsing through a box of vintage books, the elderly gentleman running the sale suddenly stopped me and asked to see my ID.

Confused and taken aback, I hesitantly handed him my driver’s license. He scrutinized it for a moment before nodding in approval. Puzzled, I asked him why he needed to see my identification at a garage sale.

With a twinkle in his eye, he explained that he was actually checking to see if I was 18 years or older so that he could sell me a set of antique wine glasses. Apparently, he had been burned in the past by selling alcohol-related items to underage individuals and wanted to avoid any potential legal trouble.

I couldn’t help but laugh at the situation and assured him that I was well above the legal drinking age. He chuckled and proceeded to sell me the wine glasses at a discounted price.

As I continued to browse the sale, I couldn’t help but marvel at the quirkiness of the encounter. It was certainly a unique and amusing experience that I will always remember.

So, if you ever find yourself getting carded at a garage sale, just roll with it and enjoy the unexpected twist in your shopping adventure. You never know what surprises await you in the world of secondhand treasures.

  2. I get excited being early to a sale and cherry picking. I get more excited later in the day when I can go to a sale late and still find items to pick.

I love selling a couple items after yard sales knowing where they came from, and realizing Im in the profit already.
