    Note, if interested in potentially patenting your product, while I (Jeremy here) learned the extensive nuances on writing and successfully prosecuting a patent for approval/grant, it can not only takes years to learn these nuances, but also the meticulous manner of writing a patent to be potentially legally interpreted one day can be very strenuous. I would strongly suggest using a patent attorney for this.

    However, if looking to get a foot in the door, and you believe there is some merit to patentability for your product/invention, you can file what is known as a Provisional Patent Application. This is substantially cheaper, giving you one, additional year to file (have an attorney file) the Nonprovisional (Final) Application.

    Although cumbersome, this entire process has been beneficial to us, as we have successfully prosecuted and taken down knock-offs (causing them to loose substantial amounts in cash/inventory from them trying to do what they did). You simply need to weigh out the cost/benefits/feasibility. Many products are not patentable and/or do not need a patent to be successful, but they can help.

    So you kind of steam rolled over the kickstarting thing.. people gave $11,000, I'm assuming they're expecting a product. How much profit came from the kickstarter? The first month selling on Amazon, where did the funding money come from? Was that from the kickstarter? If so, when did the people on kickstarter get their product?
