Mercari has added a new landing page here: https://www.mercari.com/sellnow/ which adds the following statement: *Starting March 27, 2024 we will be gradually updating existing listings into the new fee structure over the next several weeks. I've gone back over the terms of service page and don't see anything about this, but this would be huge for sellers with a lot of inventory they don't want to manually edit to get into the new structure. Stay tuned!

They also just sent a notification to sellers to automatically lower prices on all listings by 10%, which would move them into the new fee structure. They are being very aggressive!

Just put your Mercari on vacation mode for a day, then take it off. It updates your listings and changes the fee structure to buyer paid.

They could have just charged half of the sellers fees so instead of 10 do 5. Buying is already expensive enough with the shipping tax and processing fees. Im gonna have to get on Ebay.

Mercari has to make money somehow, they offer us a service. Someone's gotta pay. I'll make my prices lower on Mercari since I don't have to pay a fee to help the customers.

I had my first return initiated yesterday. On a perfume. I've bought and sold for years on Mercari and never had an issue. No pictures sent to me of how the item looks. Nothing. Just an email saying they approved a return. I'm DONE with Mercari. This is really going to be a hit for those of us that sell beauty products in which every ML counts. They were already too lenient with returns. Even eBay gives the seller a CHOICE whether or not they'll accept returns.

My Mercari store came alive the last week! As a seller, I love these changes. As a buyer, those additional fees will run me off. Interesting!

my thinking They want buyers keep. a balance in mercari at all times to buy on the platform for the fee not get charged That way they can use that money to invest in the stock market. That is why they charging a $2 fee to draw your money out. longer you keep it in macari. More they can use. to invest Later on, they will start. Saying promote your items. like eBay did Get more traffic to your items they will hit us with that fee

Im going to SEVERELY reduce my buying on Mercari. I was about to make an offer on a listing, but saw that the service fee AND processing fee (I had no idea about the change)….combined, it came up to $6.64. I didnt even bother to make the offer.
Mercari used to be an alternative to ebay. Now, I dont think I will even visit the site anymore.

ACH Transaction with banks has no ACH fees. Why should Mercari have the right to charge a fee? This isn't right.

I’ve been a loyal customer on Mercari. Was planning to purchase another piece for my collection and after seeing the transaction was adding 10% service fee, 5% transaction and it was topped with additional taxes that turned my planned 200$ to almost 300$ somehow- I will never buy on that platform again. It’s simply sad and sounds illegal as they can change the fee amount in their own will.

So transfer the fees to the buyer. Now that is a stupid move.
