Obtaining a Digital Nomad Visa in Colombia: My Journey

My Experience Getting A Digital Nomad Visa In Colombia

As someone who loves to travel and work remotely, obtaining a digital nomad visa in Colombia has been a game-changer for me. The process was relatively straightforward and the visa allows me to live and work in this beautiful country for up to a year.

I started researching the digital nomad visa program in Colombia after hearing about it from fellow travelers and expats. The visa is fairly new, having been introduced in 2021, and is designed for individuals who can work remotely and are not planning on seeking employment in Colombia.

The first step in the process was to gather all the necessary documents. This included a valid passport, proof of sufficient income, proof of health insurance, and a letter of intent explaining why I wanted to live in Colombia as a digital nomad. I also had to fill out an online application and pay a fee.

Once all my documents were in order, I submitted my application online and waited for approval. The process took a few weeks and I was notified via email when my visa was approved. I then had to visit the nearest Colombian consulate to have my visa stamped in my passport.

Having the digital nomad visa has opened up so many opportunities for me. I can now live and work in Colombia legally, without having to worry about overstaying my tourist visa. The visa also allows me to open a local bank account and access local healthcare services.

Living in Colombia as a digital nomad has been an amazing experience so far. The cost of living is relatively low, the weather is beautiful, and the people are warm and welcoming. I have been able to explore different cities and regions, while still being able to stay connected to my work.

It has allowed me to fulfill my dream of living and working in a new country, while also enjoying all that Colombia has to offer. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to experience the digital nomad lifestyle in South America.

What about the taxes? Are you still a tax resident in Colombia if you stay longer than 180 days and how much would the taxes be? If the company is outside Colombia it would be cool to have the tax advantages I have at the moment

You don't have to leave and re-enter after 90 days on a tourist visa. You can just apply for a 90 day extension.

For some reason, it won’t allow me to submit my documents. It says that documents can’t be digitally protected or signed. None of my documents are digitally signed… did you have this problem?
