If you have a knack for numbers and organization, becoming a virtual bookkeeper can be a great opportunity to work from home or anywhere with an internet connection. Here are 7 steps to get started as a virtual bookkeeper.

1. Get the necessary education and training: To become a virtual bookkeeper, you will need to have a strong understanding of accounting principles and bookkeeping software. Consider taking online courses or obtaining a certification in bookkeeping to gain the necessary skills and knowledge.

2. Set up your home office: As a virtual bookkeeper, you will need a dedicated workspace at home with a reliable internet connection, a computer, and bookkeeping software such as QuickBooks or Xero.

3. Gain experience: Look for opportunities to gain real-world experience in bookkeeping, such as internships, volunteer work, or freelance projects. This will help you build your skills and credibility as a virtual bookkeeper.

4. Create a business plan: If you plan to work as a freelance virtual bookkeeper, it’s important to create a business plan that outlines your services, target market, pricing, and marketing strategies.

5. Market your services: Once you have the necessary education and experience, it’s time to start marketing your services as a virtual bookkeeper. Create a professional website and social media profiles to showcase your skills and reach potential clients.

6. Build relationships with clients: Networking and building relationships with potential clients is crucial for a virtual bookkeeper. Attend industry events, join professional associations, and reach out to local businesses to offer your services.

Hi Veronica, I have watched some of your videos and they reinforced my decision to become a virtual bookkeeper. I already am a bookkeeper, knowing how to work with both Quickbooks desktop and online. However, I have never find any free Intuit course. I've always had to pay for them, and pay a lot. Could you please send me a link about the free QB Accounting that you mentioned in the video? That you.

Hi Veronoica: I recently took a Bookkeeping course online and got a certificate. I worked in banking years ago posting G/L, A/P, A/R. At another bank I worked with Balance Sheet, Income Statement. I took Accounting 1 & 2 in college but I'm rusty. I need to take some classes so that I can practice all the things I have mentioned. I would like to get a remote job as a Bookkeeper Trainee but I have to make sure of my skills. I need to be confident enough to be able to apply to a job. Can you help me? Thanks so much.

Qualified bookkeepers are paid $25-$30 per hour in Canada. You can get Bookkeeping Certificate in just 3 weeks studying online part-time evenings. You are not required to purchase any software or books for the training. Bookkeepers are in very high demand in Canada.
