The complete guide to setting up an Amazon seller account in 2023

Are you ready to start selling products on Amazon and tap into one of the world’s largest online marketplaces? Creating an Amazon seller account is the first step to becoming an e-commerce entrepreneur. Whether you want to sell handmade crafts, brand-name products, or private-label items, Amazon offers a platform to reach millions of potential customers.

In this article, we’ll walk you through the process of creating an Amazon seller account in 2023, covering everything from account setup to product listings and optimization.

Step 1: Decide on Your Selling Plan

Before you create your Amazon seller account, you’ll need to decide on the type of selling plan that best fits your business. Amazon offers two main selling plans: the Individual plan and the Professional plan.

The Individual plan is perfect for those who want to sell fewer than 40 items per month. This plan comes with a $0.99 fee per item sold and allows you to create product listings one at a time.

The Professional plan costs $39.99 per month and is ideal for high-volume sellers. This plan allows you to create product listings in bulk and provides access to additional tools and features to help grow your business.

Step 2: Create Your Amazon Seller Account

To start the process of creating your Amazon seller account, visit the Amazon Seller Central website and click on the “Start Selling” button. You will need to sign in with your existing Amazon account or create a new one if you don’t have one already.

After signing in, you’ll be prompted to enter some basic information about your business, such as your legal name, address, phone number, and bank account details for payment processing.

Step 3: Set Up Your Seller Profile

Once your Amazon seller account is created, it’s time to set up your seller profile. This includes adding a business name, creating a seller logo, and writing a compelling bio that describes your business and the products you offer.

You’ll also need to provide information about your shipping and return policies, as well as any additional seller information required by Amazon.

Step 4: List Your Products

With your seller account set up, you can start listing your products on Amazon. To create a new product listing, you’ll need to provide detailed information about your product, including its title, description, price, and images.

It’s important to optimize your product listings with relevant keywords and high-quality images to attract more potential buyers and improve your chances of making sales.

Step 5: Launch Your Products

Once your product listings are complete, it’s time to launch your products and start selling on Amazon. You can set up advertising campaigns, participate in promotions, and utilize Amazon’s fulfillment services to ensure a smooth and efficient selling experience for your customers.

Remember to monitor your sales and customer feedback, and make adjustments to your listings as needed to improve your selling performance over time.

In conclusion, creating an Amazon seller account is a relatively straightforward process that can open up new opportunities for your business. By following these steps and optimizing your product listings, you can maximize your success as an Amazon seller in 2023 and beyond. Good luck!

Hi @danrodgers thanks for the video. I appreciate if you can shed light to a very conflicting information for me. While creating my individual seller account should i use a phone number that hasn’t been used in any amazon transaction below? (in buyer accounts in different marketplaces). Also, a question on the credit card number that i use for charging 40 usd monthly fee. Should this be a card that has never been used in any amazon transaction (especially buying) before? Thanks a lot.

Hi Dan , I have a single member LLC in the US and I am NON Resident. When doing the tax interview I ended up adding my private name and address. Do you know how I should complete the tax interview to have my LLC info there instead of my personal info? Thanks

Hey Dan, amazing video, and I joined your group! I believe this is correct, and open to your input on starting the account one way, but changing the legal entity later.

When you set up your new Amazon account, from your steps it looks like you can use a single-member LLC disregarded for your business name. On the tax interview, it would be in an individual name (not a business). But if I started the account in my own personal name or a DBA, and wanted to change to the same single-member LLC disregarded later, that appears to be an issue.

This comes up when I click on legal entity it goes right to the tax interview.

Again, later on, if I wanted to make a change from my personal name to an LLC name, It appears on the tax interview, I could NOT use a single-member LLC disregarded because when I answer the first question, I would answer an individual (not a business). Does this sound correct, or am I missing something?

I know if I set up the LLC would need to be taxed as an S corp or C corp to answer the question that it is a business, leading to the W-9. That would change the legal entity.

Separately, it appears you can change the store name to your LLC, which is not always a good idea I know vs. your brand name of your product if private label).

This comes up a lot when non-resident sellers want to change from a foreign entity to a U.S. entity on Amazon. Thanks for your input!!

You are really good at explaining this clearly. Do you have a video on how to get a GTIN exemption, to sell print on demand products instead of going through the process of getting a brand.

Thank you for the great video!

May I ask a few questions?

I've noticed that Mercury has stopped accepting PO boxes, registered agent addresses, virtual offices, or mail centers as the company address. This creates a discrepancy between the Business formation documents and the Bank Statement. How important is the matching of the address in the Bank Statement and the address in the certificate of incorporation for Amazon when registering an LLC entity account?

Am I correct in understanding that non-US residents have now lost the option to use Mercury bank for conducting business on Amazon?

Hi Dan, thank you for this video! Very clear step by step guide. Question: Do you recomment to 'already' open a US account and use a EU creditcard, as we are still in the process of opening a US bank account, or do you recomment to wait for the US credit card in order not to receive account issues?
