The Era of Full-Time Thrift Store Reselling is Coming to an End

Reselling Full Time From Thrift Stores Is ENDING SOON…

For years, the world of thrifting and reselling has been a well-kept secret among those who have an eye for treasure. It offered a unique opportunity for enthusiasts to turn their love for vintage items, second-hand clothing, and collectibles into a full-time business. However, the landscape is rapidly changing, and it appears that the golden era of thrifting as a profitable career may be coming to an end.

Thrift stores have long been a haven for resellers. These stores usually sell donated goods at low prices, providing resellers with an endless selection of products to find and potentially resell for a profit. It was once common for resellers to spend hours scouring the shelves, racks, and bins of thrift stores, looking for that hidden gem that could turn a few dollars into a substantial payday. They would then employ their marketing skills and online platforms to reach a broader audience and maximize their profits.

However, thrift stores are becoming wise to this reselling phenomenon. With the rise in popularity of thrifting culture, many thrift stores have started capitalizing on the reselling market themselves. They have recognized the potential value of their inventory and are now forming partnerships with online reselling platforms such as eBay, Depop, and Poshmark. By doing so, they eliminate the middleman, meaning resellers no longer have the same advantage in finding valuable items for dirt-cheap prices.

Another contributing factor to the decline of reselling from thrift stores is the growing interest of mainstream consumers in pre-owned items. The appeal of second-hand clothing and vintage items has become common knowledge, causing an influx of shoppers at thrift stores. This increased demand has driven prices higher, making it harder for resellers to find items at reasonable prices and still generate a good profit.

Moreover, the proliferation of information and resources available to the general public has made it easier for anyone to become a reseller. With numerous online courses and YouTube tutorials dedicated to teaching the art of reselling, the market has become overcrowded, leading to increased competition and driving down potential profits. Gone are the days of being one of the few resellers who knew how to spot valuable pieces amidst the sea of discarded items.

While the era of full-time thrifting reselling may be nearing its end, it is not entirely over for those who enjoy the thrill of finding unique items. Thrift stores will likely continue to offer opportunities for the occasional resellable item. Moreover, there are still plenty of other avenues for reselling, such as garage sales, flea markets, and estate sales. However, the days of making a substantial income solely from thrift stores are numbered.

As the phenomenon of reselling from thrift stores comes to a close, it’s important for resellers to adapt and evolve. They must find new sources for inventory, explore alternative markets, and capitalize on their unique knowledge and skills in different ways. It’s time to think outside the thrift store and embrace the changing landscape of reselling.

In conclusion, the heyday of reselling full time from thrift stores is quickly fading away. Factors such as thrift stores partnering with reselling platforms, increased competition, and growing demand for pre-owned items have led to declining profitability. However, there are still opportunities for resellers to thrive by being adaptable and exploring new avenues for sourcing and selling. It’s time to bid farewell to this era and welcome the next chapter in the world of reselling.

Gotta go mobile! Brick and mortar has really been a thing of the past for about the past decade. It's better to go to the customers at trade shows, flea markets, festivals, bazaars, City shows, excetera. Go to the events where they have a thousand plus attendees everyday at least and you'll make much more. Work only the weekends and source and do business stuff during the weekdays. I cannot imagine sitting in a store with so much merchandise and a handful of customers. I'll go one step further, and this is only my personal belief, but whenever you completely take the money out of the equation and do not focus on the things that society has told you to focus on, but rather your own intuition and senses, there's no end to the potential.

You don’t have to make 10 grand a month to consider it full time. I average around 6 and consider reselling my full time job. Hard to beat, especially as a stay at home mom to a toddler and an infant. Most people with “regular” full time jobs do not make 10 grand a month lol

When I was in school full time 2 years ago I made enough to be able to support myself but now I don’t make near enough. I only really have one thrift store I go to because they do half off days and have a lot of vintage clothes because it’s a donation center for an older church

For most people this is true, but you do have some great sellers out there that easily do over 10k a month thrifting. Just depends on your skill, and getting out of bed routinely just to go thrift. It definitely takes a toll mentally, and physically.

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

    Hebrews 11:6

6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Anyone get tired of shoppers who try and force you to move so they can look at the items your looking at? That's my pet peeve, it's so rude, I refuse to move. This happens anywhere I'm at shopping. I don't let them pressure me just cause they want what I'm looking at.

Do you have a Panasonic omnimovie camcorder. It's the one I believe Magnavox slapped their name on it too. The last time I used it, the speed wasn't perfect and I had a few lines and the sound wasn't good. This video was worse than mine was. I wonder if you worked on those big camcorders from 89-90.

I feel as if it’s not really worth thrifting at thrift stores much these days because stores like goodwill take all the valuable stuff and put it on their auction site.

Plus thrift stores are becoming really expensive. Ya you can find some gems that are priced well but overall it's becoming ridiculous.

Because ebay influencers have ruined everything the last 5 to 8 years. You can not source from liquidation hardly either. The stuff they are liquidation is crap. Even trying to make 2000 a month requires about 30 hours or more per week.

I’ve been a fan for a while man. Since you first started essentially and books were more lucrative than now. I don’t like how this cuts off after saying that thrift stores aren’t going to be able to scale. Although I do realize publicly saying what would allow someone to scale would potentially saturate the market, at the same time 90% of people don’t take action on anything they hear or see. Would love to be able to contact you somehow to hear what sources are best to scale / best places to form relationships for scaling. We’re a few states away it wouldn’t affect you at all. If you see this reply and we can speak on PMs. I WILL be the biggest reseller in my state in the next 2-3 years.

Times have caught up w sourcing at thrift stores. 2-1 inside with resellers compared to reg customers. Stores know this already. So they won't put the good stuff out. Or raise the prices. Too many ppl watching all the same content creators on here doing the same thing. Or trying to be content crators themselves. Watered down market! Good luck even trying to make 1k profit per month shopping at thrifts
