The internet has become an essential part of our lives, especially for digital nomads who rely on it for their work and travel. But how good is the internet in India? As a digital nomad, I had the opportunity to experience the internet in various parts of the country, and I can say that it is a mixed bag.
India has made significant progress in improving its internet infrastructure in recent years. With the government’s Digital India initiative and the widespread adoption of 4G technology, the internet in urban areas is generally fast and reliable. In cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Bangalore, you can expect to have a seamless online experience with high-speed internet connectivity.
However, when you venture into more remote or rural areas, the quality of the internet can vary greatly. In some places, you may struggle to get a stable connection, and even when you do, the speed may be too slow for tasks that require a lot of bandwidth, such as video calls or large file transfers.
One of the biggest challenges with the internet in India is the issue of consistency. Even in urban areas, you may experience occasional service outages or periods of slow connectivity. This can be frustrating, especially when you are in the middle of an important work project or trying to book travel accommodations online.
Another factor to consider is the cost of internet access in India. While the prices have come down significantly in recent years, it can still be expensive compared to other countries. This is something that digital nomads need to factor into their budget, especially if they plan to rely heavily on the internet for their work and communication.
Despite these challenges, there are also many positive aspects of the internet in India. The country has a vibrant and dynamic online community, with a burgeoning tech start-up culture and a growing e-commerce industry. This means that you can find a plethora of digital tools and services to support your nomadic lifestyle, from co-working spaces to online marketplaces for accommodation and transportation.
Overall, the internet in India is good enough for digital nomads to get by, especially in urban areas. With a bit of patience and flexibility, you can navigate the challenges and enjoy the many benefits of being connected in this diverse and vibrant country. As India continues to invest in its internet infrastructure, we can expect the quality of the internet to improve even further in the coming years.

Thank you for the info about the internet speeds!
If you pay for higher speeds, you get higher speeds in India.
ACT internet offers gigabit speeds nowadays.
Bro make this video in 2022…
My Internet speed – 30Mb (without wifi)
megabits not megabyte how many time i have to say this.. internet speed is measured in megabits
old video , now jio fiber and airtel fiber is there all over india speeds starts from 30mbps to 1gbps.
I am in Jaipur and I get 150mbps
I get unlimited internet of 35mb per second just at the price of 630 rupees.Which is just enough for a single person like me
I pay 10$ per month for unlimited internet through wifi
I think the average speed doesn't represent the internet speed that you can get, because in India the speed depends on your plan and most Indians do not need much faster internet. This is especially true for broadband and fibre internet connections. I can guarantee that you can get 100 mbps at any of the 1000s of towns in India. Which ever town you go it's guaranteed that you can get broadband connection from BSNL (state owned ISP). If you are staying in a city you can get broadband and fibre from private ISPs which are cheaper, more reliable and much faster ( in gbps range).
Now let's talk about the 4g mobile internet speed. All the plans have same speed in this. And the speed is generally in the range of 5-12 mbps. It's sometimes unreliable at some places in the city.
I remember 7 years back when I used to bunk my school spent my entire weeks pocket monet to buy 200mb Airtel pack and waiting for facebook page to look on which I was only able to see my profile pic. and it was very slow too back then. But now I have unlimited data with 550 month weekly. The network rarely goes.
Buy an inverter dude.
You may purchase home inverter for 16-17k if you need power backup. With this you can run your computer, fans and lights uninterrupted during outages.
It's very good specially in metro cities….if you get jio or Airtel fibre or wifi though it depends on your location as towers are overloaded bcz of more registration….you can also opt LAN from local cable operator which I found amazing …they have rates according to speed….but I am not sure about other cities and suburbs of India.
Use Airtel dongle for emergency or in times of power cut.
I have a jio fiber connection with 150 mbps its good for almost all i honestly don't need 50 mbps is all my realistic need
I use internet for free whole night
Waiting for Starlink Spacex Internet……
I get 300mbps here in Bengaluru.
But it depends on what package you take.
Chennai 200mbps is 1.2k and 1TB FUP
@Benjamin Jenks – American in India Check out Bangalore. You'll find many differences as its a city that's popular among westerners due to IT.
Mine is 100 mbps for rs 650 per month with out data cap
I am from Goa and m using 200 Mbps speed plan fiber of which I get 150 Mbps to 195 Mbps speed on average….so net is not slow here …u can even get 1 Gbps speed but have to pay higher …..yes mobile net speed not stable but u get around 1 mbps to 3speed most of the time and sometimes even 5-12 Mbps specialy in early morning or late night….yes hotel WiFi speed might be pathetic…..
Guys if u r visiting India the internet shouldn't be a problem, I'm living in a small town in south india and I get 300mbps easily and if u go to city's like chennai or bangalore u will get 1gbps
Now highspeed GSM 4g is available 20gb @ USD 1 its the cheapest in the world
Average Broadband in India is faster and 80% than what in USA
paying 12$ for month for 100mbps (126mbps in reality) in bhopal on airtel fiber getting unlimited data + free 1year amazon prime sub , zee5 subscription and unlimited calling with wynk music , that is cheap ! only 4g is little costly here if your data consumption is high otherwise broadband prices are really low .
4g is cheap af
It's megabits
It's megabytes that your are talking about
If its good enough for Indians to scam Americans, its good enough to work for Americans.
I have BSNL 4g SIM which is government company it provides me 20 mbps at 3g network as in my area they don't operate on 4g, speed with minimal issues.
I get 100Mbps speed no data cap 600 Rupees ( 8.13USD ) per months in New Delhi.
I live in rural part of India. Frankly speaking, internet speeds in rural part is really improving day by day now. In my area, only BSNL provides broadband service right now and soon Jio and Airtel may expand too. BSNL broadband gives a speed of 100mbps ie, 12.5 MBPS for price of 300₹
Do you mean mega bits or mega bytes?
There are plans from 50 mbps to 1gbps. Cost also varies as per the plan. But if you compare it with most of the western countries. You will find internet cheaper in India. Currently i am using 100 mbps plan and paying 650 per month and if i pay for 6 months in 1 go then i will get free internet for another 3 months.
What??? guys you cant compare internet.. i am living in chennai and i have faster inter net than most of US cities.
Bro checkout jio fiber
Then Talk..In himachal pradesh which is at a great elevation jio fiber has an avg speed of 100 MBPS at a cost USD 26
I live in Bangalore, Karnataka and I pay 10.85 dollars per month for 300 gb internet with 100 Mbps speed, but I get around 94 Mbps download speed and 89 Mbps upload speed
USE AIRTEL INTERNET IN MOBILE.. speed 10mbps & more . USE JIO FIBER AS BROADBAND ( but yes its not available every where) but they have speed over 1 gbps.
internet in India is like Honda with BMW logo on it LMAO.
one que why america 's need 100mbps speed ??? even 15 -20 mbps is good
