The Reason I Left Amazon FBA

The Reason I Left Amazon FBA

Amazon FBA, or Fulfillment by Amazon, is a popular program among online sellers that allows them to store their products in Amazon’s fulfillment centers and have Amazon take care of shipping, customer service, and returns. It can be a lucrative business model for many entrepreneurs, but for me, it ultimately led to my decision to quit.

When I first started selling on Amazon FBA, I was excited about the potential to reach a larger audience and streamline my business operations. However, as time went on, I began to encounter several challenges that made me reconsider my involvement with the program.

One of the main issues I faced was the high fees associated with Amazon FBA. While Amazon takes care of many aspects of the selling process, they also charge fees for these services, including storage fees, fulfillment fees, and referral fees. These fees quickly added up and cut into my profits, making it difficult to maintain a competitive edge in the marketplace.

Another issue I encountered was the lack of control over my business. With Amazon handling shipping and customer service, I found myself at the mercy of their policies and procedures. This lack of autonomy made it challenging to address customer concerns quickly and effectively, leading to negative reviews and a tarnished reputation.

Additionally, I found that the competition on Amazon FBA was fierce. With so many sellers vying for the same customers, it became increasingly difficult to stand out and attract new buyers. This saturation in the market made it hard to generate consistent sales and achieve sustainable growth.

After weighing these challenges and considering my overall experience with Amazon FBA, I made the decision to quit the program. While it offered convenience and reach, the high fees, lack of control, and intense competition ultimately outweighed the benefits for me.

In conclusion, Amazon FBA may be a successful venture for many sellers, but it was not the right fit for me. By recognizing the limitations and drawbacks of the program, I was able to make an informed decision to move on and explore other opportunities in the e-commerce space.

FBA is such a huge waste of time. The margins are so thin it’s not even worth it

Great story, and thanks for sharing your experience. Have you and your husband ever considered both going full time into FBA? Become the employer vs. working for an employer. I would think it has to be very difficult to scale this business to replace a job, especially while working a full time job. You seem to have gained enough experience, and have the right mindset and passion to build and scale an FBA empire. It sounds like you just need the time in your week to fully commit and focus on executing against this business model. Glad my wife and I found your channel! We are jumping all in. We have always dreamed of working together and building our own business together. FBA might be the ticket- we will see…. Thanks for sharing your wisdom on YouTube!

I feel often that Amazon isn't always worth all the extra stress. I've sold hundreds of product and only have about 12 reviews. I got one bad review out of all the good and Amazon is stressing me about my account potentially getting shutdown. I've had great wholesale accounts get hijacked by price tanking. I've had Amazon prevent me from selling on listings even when I've gotten a wholesale agreement with the brand. I've gone through a bunch of crap with Amazon. It is not for the faint of heart. It is not easy money and it is not passive money. I have to give my family the attention they need as well. I've started making Amazon a business that I only work on from 8pm-10pm. I don't always work on it now, I do it based on how I feel each day. Good luck to you and your family, sounds like you've gotten your priorities organized. That will make Amazon much easier going forward.

Cassandra, first thank you for the content that you create. Second, I will say a prayer for you to get alot out of this phase you have embarked on. Now for a bit of encouragement in a humorous way (based on what I think I know about you):

Uhm. Really? You seriously do not know why you procrastinate? LOL!

Ya think maybe it's because you are a dedicated wife, mom, daughter, sibling, friend, neighbor, coworker, mentor (to us YouTube students), teacher, counselor, content creator, video editor, graphic designer, solo-prenuer, housekeeper, cook, seamstress, etc.

Uhm, I'd be procrastinating too! Cut yourself some slack.
