The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide to Flipping Vintage Hats #vintagehats

Vintage hats are a timeless fashion statement that can add a touch of elegance and sophistication to any outfit. Whether you are a fashion enthusiast looking to expand your collection or an aspiring entrepreneur looking to make a profit, flipping vintage hats can be a lucrative and enjoyable pursuit. With a little knowledge and dedication, you can turn your passion for vintage hats into a successful side hustle or even a full-time business.

Here is a beginner’s guide to flipping vintage hats:

Research and Education

The first step in flipping vintage hats is to educate yourself about the different styles, brands, and eras of vintage hats. There are many resources available online and in books that can help you learn about the history and value of different hat styles. You can also visit vintage stores, flea markets, and antique fairs to see and touch vintage hats in person.

Learn about the different materials used in vintage hats, such as straw, felt, and fur, and familiarize yourself with the various hat shapes, such as cloches, fedoras, and pillbox hats. Understanding the different factors that affect a hat’s value, such as its condition, rarity, and designer, will help you make informed decisions when buying and selling vintage hats.

Building Your Collection

Once you have gained some knowledge about vintage hats, it’s time to start building your collection. Look for hats in good condition that are clean and free of damage. You can find vintage hats at thrift stores, estate sales, online marketplaces, and vintage clothing stores. It may take some time and patience to find the right hats for your collection, so be prepared to do some hunting.

When buying vintage hats, consider the brand, style, and condition of the hat, as well as the price. It’s important to assess the potential resale value of the hats before making a purchase. You can also consider creating a themed collection, such as vintage hats from a specific era or designer, to attract a niche market of buyers.

Marketing and Selling

Once you have accumulated a collection of vintage hats, it’s time to start selling them. You can sell your hats online through platforms like Etsy, eBay, or Instagram, or in person at vintage fairs and pop-up events. When marketing your hats, use high-quality photos and detailed descriptions to showcase the unique features of each hat. Consider offering discounts, promotions, or bundle deals to attract potential buyers.

Networking with other vintage enthusiasts, attending vintage fashion events, and joining online vintage communities can help you connect with potential buyers and build your reputation as a hat collector and seller. Building a strong brand and cultivating a loyal customer base will help you establish a successful flipping business.

Flipping vintage hats can be a fun and rewarding venture for anyone with a passion for fashion and a love for vintage clothing. By educating yourself about vintage hats, building a collection, and marketing and selling your hats, you can turn your hobby into a profitable and fulfilling business. So get out there and start flipping those vintage hats!

Just wondering if u or anybody has any advice. I have an old KangaROOS hat that I picked at a yard sale years ago. It still has tags with patent pending on it (I guess for a pocket on it) I can't find anything on the internet so I have no clue as how to price if I sold?

I’ve been reselling and watching YT reselling videos everyday for almost three years and I would be insanely hard pressed to not say that this is the best reselling video I’ve ever watched. This is pro level eBay hat reselling advice and a deep dive into vintage hats that most would never have seen. I’m speechless. And I really appreciate you taking the time to make this video. I’ll probably make hundreds off of it over the next several years or more

I'll happily take those hats that don't sell off you. I Bought a bulk lot from a wholesaler in the UK, literally all of the hats were of American brands and small companies but they all went like wildfire, I didn't think I'd sell a single one

Wow, this is such a good video! I mean, the information is excellent and super helpful, I'm taking notes! But beyond that this is really well done, presented in a super clear, organized manner, you have examples for everything and you leave the pictures of the examples up on screen for long enough that we can see them—that's something that drives me nuts, when YouTubers put some really important info up on screen, whether it's a photo or text, and they leave it up for like a tenth of a second!–and your pacing is great, too! Thank you so much!

Just recently learn that folks can replace the snapback part of the hat. Just use a old donor hat. Can be glued or sewn.

Awesome video! You break it all down into sections/categories & it is very easy to understand! Is there a way you can tell if a hat is vintage… vs being non vintage? I realize that sounds so ignorant! I resell clothing & know how to date clothing but haven’t found that same information for hats/caps. Thanks for your time!

I have a 1990's Sports Specialties hat that has what I can only describe as having a raised outline of a basketball player on the side of the hat. The Team (Charlotte Hornets) logo is on the front of the hat and the raised / embossed outline is on the side of the hat and is the same color and material as the main body of the hat (white) – what is that called?
