Puerto Escondido, located on the southern coast of Mexico, has become an increasingly popular destination for digital nomads seeking a more affordable and laid-back lifestyle. With its beautiful beaches, warm weather, and vibrant expat community, it’s no wonder that many remote workers are choosing to make this picturesque town their home.
One of the biggest draws for digital nomads in Puerto Escondido is the low cost of living. Unlike major cities like Mexico City or Playa del Carmen, where prices can be quite high, Puerto Escondido offers a more budget-friendly option for those looking to stretch their dollars further. From accommodations to food and transportation, here’s a breakdown of what you can expect in terms of costs in Puerto Escondido:
Accommodation: Renting a one-bedroom apartment in the city center can cost anywhere from $300 to $600 per month, depending on the location and amenities. If you’re looking for a more upscale option, you can find luxury condos or beachfront villas for around $800 to $1,500 per month.
Food: Eating out in Puerto Escondido is also very affordable, with a meal at a local restaurant costing around $5 to $10. If you prefer to cook at home, a week’s worth of groceries can be purchased for around $20 to $30 at the local markets.
Transportation: Puerto Escondido is a relatively small town, so getting around on foot or by bicycle is easy and affordable. If you need to take a taxi, fares are reasonable, with a ride across town costing around $2 to $5.
Utilities: Monthly expenses for utilities such as electricity, water, and internet can add up to around $50 to $100 per month, depending on your usage.
Overall, a digital nomad living in Puerto Escondido can expect to spend around $800 to $1,200 per month, including rent, food, transportation, and utilities. This makes it an attractive option for remote workers looking to save money while enjoying a high quality of life in a tropical paradise.
In addition to its low cost of living, Puerto Escondido offers a thriving expat community, with plenty of opportunities to connect with like-minded individuals through coworking spaces, meetups, and social events. The town also boasts a range of amenities, including restaurants, cafes, bars, and shops, making it easy to live comfortably while working remotely.
Overall, Puerto Escondido offers a fantastic combination of affordable living, stunning natural beauty, and a welcoming community, making it an ideal destination for digital nomads looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. Whether you’re looking to work on your laptop from a hammock on the beach or explore the nearby surf spots and waterfalls, Puerto Escondido has something to offer for everyone. With its low cost of living and high quality of life, it’s no wonder that more and more remote workers are choosing to call this hidden gem their home.

Very informative. Thank you so much!
Hi! Could you please give the name of the hotel you stayed at – we tried the link but it timed out. Thank you!❤
Appreciate your reply and good wishes. My goal is to find a place to live ! ( I will never be able to stop working and still live here in Northern ( Sonoma County ) California. Have been looking at the Pacific Coast for years and only finally making a visit happen this month. Looking at both Puerto Escondido and Sayulita and thinking that either area as well as both North and South of each might be OK too ( perhaps a little more affordable and still nice beach access ) I'm in my mid 60's so my residential construction future is slowing ! : ) Have a great weekend, Steve
