The Updated 2023 Cost of Living in Bali: What You Need to Know

How Much Does it COST to LIVE IN BALI? (INSANE 2023 Update)

Bali has long been a popular destination for tourists and expats alike, thanks to its stunning beaches, lush landscapes, and rich cultural heritage. But how much does it actually cost to live in this tropical paradise? With the cost of living constantly changing, it’s important to stay updated on the latest numbers.

When it comes to living in Bali, the cost can vary widely depending on your lifestyle and location. Let’s break down some of the major expenses you can expect if you’re considering making the move to Bali in 2023.

Housing

One of the biggest expenses for anyone living in Bali is housing. The cost of renting a one-bedroom apartment in popular areas like Seminyak or Canggu can range from $400 to $800 per month. If you’re looking for something more upscale, a larger villa with a pool can set you back anywhere from $1,200 to $3,000 per month.

Utilities

Utilities such as electricity, water, and internet are generally fairly affordable in Bali. A standard monthly bill for a small apartment might amount to around $50 to $100. However, if you’re living in a larger villa with a pool and air conditioning, you can expect this cost to be higher.

Food

If you love to eat out, Bali offers a wide range of dining options to suit any budget. A meal at a casual local warung can be as cheap as $3, while a meal at a mid-range restaurant might set you back around $10 to $20. Cooking at home can also be affordable, with groceries costing around $200 to $300 per month for a single person.

Transportation

Getting around Bali can be fairly inexpensive, especially if you opt for a motorbike rather than a car. Renting a motorbike can cost as little as $50 to $100 per month, and petrol is relatively cheap. If you prefer using taxis or ride-sharing services, expect to pay around $1 to $2 per kilometer.

Healthcare

While healthcare in Bali is generally more affordable compared to western countries, it’s still important to budget for medical expenses. A visit to a doctor might cost around $20 to $30, while a basic health insurance plan can set you back around $50 to $100 per month.

Other Expenses

Other everyday expenses to consider include gym memberships, entertainment, and miscellaneous items. A monthly gym membership might cost around $30 to $50, while seeing a movie in a local cinema can cost around $5 to $8.

Overall, living in Bali can be as affordable or as lavish as you make it. While the cost of living is generally lower compared to many western countries, it’s important to budget accordingly and factor in your personal lifestyle preferences.

In conclusion, the cost of living in Bali in 2023 can vary widely depending on your preferences, but it’s still possible to live comfortably at a reasonable cost. With careful planning and budgeting, you can make the most of what this beautiful island has to offer without breaking the bank.

Indo people there respect their island but Westerners just want to party, so loud and trash the place. Your money is not gonna buy you happiness if you don’t treat the people and the island with respect. I know because I live in the USA and am from one of the islands. I love Bali the serenity and nature, but Westerners/foreigners or Expats will ruin Bali because of their ignorance. That’s why it’s expensive now not like before because of IG, etc. social media. Foreigners drive up the prices and don’t help the locals.

You need to include the people, the locals in your videos. You’re one-sided! How about you include asking the locals, my people what they feel about the prices? You can't be a citizen there even if you have property. Think long term if I were you.

Funny! "We talk about the WHY in few moments!" Just show a picture of yourself and you've pretty much nailed it. I went to Bali in 2004 for the first time and back then it REALLY was paradise. Years later guys like yourself started pouring into the country and pretty much ruined the prices for everyone, especially for the locals! ;-(

You can’t get a MEAL anywhere on Bali for $1….cheapest meal here is 30k …and a bike for 3.5 dollars a day… that’s a lie unless you rent for weeks/month

Stop your fckng complaining if you want everything cheap. Don't come here, everyone needs money to pay their expenses. Do you want everything cheap here???. I saw your channel always comparisons between local and your perspective. You are not king here. Just be nice and respect the people around you. This is not a Western country.

Alex Garland described that while ago in his "The Beach", speaking about your content it's not entertaining anymore, new girlfriend same old story. You were good in your guide videos now it's just boring, no new info, no interesting directions nothing. Dream of building a villa on Bali and live doing nothing didn't work, well welcome to the real life.

Everything changed because many foreigners acted in Bali, where local people felt that they were looked down upon. Raising prices is a response to their treatment

Give it 20 years and this phenomenon will of levelled the playing field all over the world. Anywhere beautiful with great food and activities will be 'expensive'. Globalisation and the exploding increase of remote working will accelerate this process.

i guess every country is great if you are ready to spend 50 € for first quality sushi every day. That's clearly not the life the 90% of Bali's people live.
