Why Do Charity Shops Participate in UK Ebay Reselling?

Charity shops are a common sight on high streets and in shopping centers across the UK. These stores sell second-hand goods donated by members of the public, with the proceeds going to various charitable causes. While most people understand the basic premise of charity shops, there is one aspect of their operations that often leaves customers scratching their heads – why do charity shops sometimes send their goods to be resold on eBay by UK resellers?

The practice of sending charity shop items to be resold on eBay by UK resellers has become increasingly common in recent years. Instead of selling all items in-store, some charity shops have started to send certain items to be sold online. This has led to confusion among customers, who wonder why these goods are not being sold in-store to raise funds for charity.

There are several reasons why charity shops may choose to send items to be resold on eBay. Firstly, certain items may have a higher resale value online than they would in-store. By selling these items on eBay, charity shops can generate more money for their chosen causes. This can be especially beneficial for rare or collectible items that may attract higher bids online.

Additionally, sending items to be resold on eBay can help charity shops to reach a wider audience. By selling items online, charity shops can tap into the vast online marketplace and attract buyers from all over the UK (and even beyond). This can help to maximize the amount of money raised from each donation, as items may be more likely to find a buyer online than in-store.

Furthermore, reselling items on eBay can help charity shops to clear out excess stock and make room for new donations. Charity shops are often inundated with donations, and sending some items to be sold online can help to free up space in-store. This can help to streamline operations and ensure that the shop is able to display a diverse range of items for sale.

While some customers may be confused by the practice of sending charity shop items to be resold on eBay, it is ultimately a strategic move that can benefit the charity shop and its charitable causes. By taking advantage of the online marketplace, charity shops can maximize the funds raised from donations and reach a wider audience of potential buyers. So next time you see a charity shop item for sale on eBay, remember that it’s all in the name of supporting a good cause.

Jon spread the word. Just off the phone to ebay today as my final value charged fees didn't add up. Guess what as of April the 8th ebay are now increasing ebay on top of final value fees from 30p to 36p , on top of that is a 4p regulatory fee. So they have jacked up on top final value fees from 30p to 40p for buisness sellers. I explained to them the website states 30p and this is against trading standards , they said yes we know we should have updated website but running late FFS. So the free fees for private sellers and being paid by us buisness sellers = simples . eg I sold a low cost Item for £7.49 my final ebay fees were £2.14 of which post 0.85 , ulti[ply that by 1000's and it adds up mate .
